Here we are on 16th January 1977. The Hessle anchorage can be clearly seen. It was built in reinforced concrete sections to a height of 41m above foundation level. Much of the cabling and road sections have yet to be added at this stage.
Obviously, before the bridge was built, there were access difficulties between the north and south banks of the River Humber, so the foundation contractors, John Howard and Company, carried out the construction on each bank as a separate operation.
